So, my head is full of ideas for a script, but when I go to write them down, I don't feel like writing. That's strange, usually when I have ideas, I can't wait to get them out of my head. I don't get it. Does this ever happen to you?

As the time slowly passes and I wait for the day that I can leave this hell called Las Vegas, I realize why it is that I must leave. People here are out for themselves too much. They don't stop to think of others, even those who help them. They as for help, but are never willing to repay the favor. If they need or want something, they will stop at nothing to get it. The drivers here are so dangerous, they run red lights, tailgate, speed, run stop signs, cut people off. It's as if they are in a big rush to go nowhere. It seems that there is a major car accident every Friday that slows my commute to work. Just once I would like to meet somebody here who has done some sort of selfless act. I'm tired of getting the short end of the stick on a daily basis. There is a guy making money off of a film that I spent a year slaving over, and do I see a dime of that money? No, he enjoys it all to himself. People call me up, or send me text messages saying that they want to get together and do something, so I make plans for it, only to be ignored on the day of. At least call and cancel, send me a text saying that you have to change plans, something, don't just blow me off. I really hate this place and the closer it gets to the day of my departure, the more I realize just how much I hate it. I get so aggravated at the people here who claim to be my friends that on my days off, I don't want to do anything, but sit and watch TV. It's almost like a small kind of depression I feel. Over all, however, I have learned to just ignore things that get me down. I no longer count on people following through with plans, and I am cutting ties with the two people who do it the most.
In the coming days and weeks I am getting ready for the big move. I will be going through everything that I own and tossing everything that I have no use for. I was given great advice on this matter..."If you haven't looked at it, or thought about it in a year, you don't need it." I will use this advice in my cleaning and packing. I am already making plans for 100 Watt Productions. Once I move I will once again begin to push the company and begin making short films and documentaries.
The day draws near and I grow ever increasingly impatient.

Another day in the count down! I have so many plans when I leave. I think this is just what I needed to my life back on track. No more Vegas life, no more Vegas girls, no more Vegas summers. I will miss one thing about this place, that's the mountains. I have to do a lot of hiking before I leave, there are still untraveled trails at Mt. Charleston, Red Rock and Valley of Fire.

I can't wait to leave this Hell hole. Ever since the offer to move was made to me, I have thought of nothing else. I hate this city, I hate the stupid people in this city, I hate the traffic in this city, and I really, really hate all the stupid Tramps, and selfish, slutty women in this city. Vegas is truly the corruption of the world. People come here to live the "Vegas Lifestyle", and they end up being trapped by it. I went to see Avatar last light in Imax 3D. I wasn't expecting much. The only good thing about the movie was the person I saw it with. What a waste of time the film is, I don't understand all the hipe. Weak story, mostly poor acting, but I guess the effects were cool. Watching it in 3D sucked, if I tilted my head, everything went blurry, I had to keep my head in the same position the whole film. Anyway, the film over all wasn't worth the hipe, spend your money on something else.

A sad day

Today is a sad day for 100 Watt Productions. Due to financial problems I have just canceled my web site. It will be closed by December, so if you haven't seen the site, please visit it soon. This also might be a good thing, a time to re-invent myself and the company. Change can be good. The weather is cold, winter knocks at the door, and winter is the time of death and the promise of a fresh spring. Maybe it is fitting that the site dies now, perhaps there will be a new beginning. Again, the 100 Watt Productions website is closing down.

You might be wondering why there have not been any new videos posted. Well, my computer crashed, taking away me ability to edit any footage. It will be quite some time before I can get enough money saved up to replace the computer and buy the software. I have to buy the software because the program I had on the computer was given to me by a former employer so I can edit at home as well as at the office, and since I no longer work there I have to buy it to put it back on the computer. As soon as I get everything back up and running I will begin posting new videos again.

Where the Wild Things Are.

This evening I went to see "Where the wild things are". I was the only one in the theater, I love that. While I sat and waited for the film to begin, I was thinking of the book, and how much I loved it as a kid. I was hoping not to be disappointed. The lights dimmed and the trailers began. I was excited, I tossed a few M&Ms in my mouth and washed them down with a sip of Sprite. It began with a hand held shot of Max, in his PJs, running through the house chasing his dog and growling.

I was not disappointed! What a great movie! I was in love, it was like that short book came to life in greater detail, and more story. GREAT JOB Spike Jonze!

Republicans win Virginia and New Jersey governorships! Sweet! Looks like people are starting to wake up to Obama's rule. If you watched "V" this evening you'll see that it's a little too close for comfort, the Visitors are the Obama administration, even down to the media spin. The show was great, as a fan of the original I give it 5 stars.

Sorry, there's no new video this week. I was busy shooting a training video for the police department, so I did not have a chance to take a hike this past Tuesday. But fear not! Next Tuesday I will be back on the hiking kick and I will have a new video to share. I plan to go to Red Rock Canyon. I hope to get some great footage of the wild animals there. Keep an eye out next week!

So I was on the website for the Las Vegas International Film Festival and I clicked on 2009 winners. What I found surprised me. My film, "The Pain Behind the Badge" won "Best Documentary". How cool is that? I don't know why my name wasn't called at the ceremony, but at least it's on the site for all to see.

So the other day I received MAY from Netflix. I was hesitant at first, but when I sat down to watch it I kept an open mind. The film started off kind of slow, but good none the less. As the film continued it got better. I was hooked and could not take my eyes off the screen.

The lead character, May is an awkward, shy, loner with a lazy eye. Her only friend is a doll that her mother made and gave to her when she was younger, that doll stays in a glass box. The film progresses and May comes out of her shell.

The film was good over all, and I would suggest it to others.

I just saw one of the greatest films about one of the greatest people ever. I have seen this film many times before, but now that I have a good job, I was able to buy it. The film is "Chaplin". I say that he's a great person, not for who he is, but what he did for the film industry. He was one of the people who made films grow to the degree that it did. The film doesn't show the many advances that he made to the industry. He never gave up, he knew that he could do anything he wanted.

I think I have a lot to learn to know from him.

New Job

Finally I found work. This week I will start my new job as a Mental Health Tech. Basically it's like a babysitter for the mentally ill. Sounds like a great job, I can't wait to get back to work and most importantly get a paycheck! Now I can get my life back on track. My main goal is to get my debts paid off, get a place of my own to live and get better equipment for my films.

Billy Mays has died

Today I found out that Billy Mays died at the age of 50. It is said that he likely died of a heart attack but further tests are needed. Love him or hate him, you have to admire what he did for the boring television infomercial.

Why have a fair if everyone there is just going to tell you to go online to fill out an application? Job Fairs are such a waste of time and gas money. Something has to be done about this insult to people looking for work. Maybe there's a short documentary in this...Hmmm!

First off let me start by saying that on Friday I went and saw the new Star Trek movie. I was really impressed with it. I am not a "Treki", but I loved the film, it was well done and it surprised me.

So I have a script for my new film, it's called "My Road". This is a temporary title, but the script is done and I have the lead actor. I also have some of the story boards done, and hope to have all of them done by the end of the week. I would like to start shooting as soon as possible, but at this moment I don't have the time or the money. The money issue can be worked around for this film, maybe, but the time issue can't be fixed just yet.

In the coming days I plan on posting some of the storyboards, but just remember I have no drawing abilities, so I am cheating by using Hash Animation Master and a few of their pre-built models modified to fit what I need. It's making my life easier doing it that way.

Okay, I know now that I have to GRAB people through a film for next years film fest. I have an idea for a short film and have about 11 pages done so far. I have the actors, well most of them. They're not pros, they're my friends, but it's a start. I think this short will grab people. It's clever (if I might say so myself), and I hope it will be shot nicely. I'll let you know more in the near future. I'm not going to tell you the story just yet, but I'll give you production updates.

Las Vegas Film Festival stuff

So the film was shown and it got some good comments. Before the show, the local Fox news station was there and they interviewed my producer and myself. When the story aired on the news that night it was short and they left out my interview.

But I do have proof that I was interviewed...

Over all I had a great time, and next year I will have another project.

Las Vegas Film Fest

So last night I went to the opening night party for the festival. I had a lot of fun and I met a great guy, Jeremy Pack. He told me about his film, "These Boots are Made for Walken", I was interested so today I went to see it. It was part of a short film block, it was the best one in the block. I was impressed by it, and by how well it was done. I think I'm out of my leauge at this fest, but it is a great start to what I hope is a long life of the festival scene.

Also in the short film block was a music video, I liked it quite a bit. The video was cool and the song was as well The band is Visa, and the song is "Breakout the Violins".

I'm stuck! I want to make another mini documentary, but I don't know what to do it on. I went out to the Valley of Fire today and spent all day there. I love that place, but besides the beauty, I found no real story that makes me burn with desire to tell the story.
My concern is that I don't want to make an advertisement for the Valley of Fire. I want to tell a story that attracts people, something that makes them want to keep watching. The last documentary wasn't simply a doc about Lake Mead, it told about the falling water level, a story that had to be told. It burned inside me until it's completion. I just don't get that at the Valley of Fire. Maybe I need to be looking elsewhere.
There has to be a story somewhere nearby. It has to be nearby, because of the money issue (I HAVE NONE).

I will keep up the search, and soon you will see what I come up with. Be patient, and keep checking this page for the new film.

Receding Waters

I have been getting some really good feedback on my short documentary called, "Receding Waters". I always love feedback, good or bad I don't care, it's all useful. The new updates to the film make all the difference, it flows much better.

A few days ago I was asked if I was going to make documentaries all the time, or if I was also going to make other films. I responded that I'll make what ever I can afford. This person also said that I am great at the docs and that I really know what I'm doing. It was good to hear that, and I'm really beginning to fall in love with documentaries and will stick to them for a while. I have another one in the works and will get it out as soon as I complete it. Until that time feel free to watch "Receding Waters" as often as you would like.

My goal in making documentaries is to find some outlet to sell the films and get enough money to get some updated equipment. With better equipment comes better films. HD would be the ideal way to shoot my documentaries, I mean just think of "Receding Waters', and how it would look in HD. Lake Mead is a beautiful place, even without the water and HD is the only way to show the world all the beauty. The future documentaries would look great in HD as well, because I plan to make films about all the surrounding area here, places like Red Rock, Mt. Charleston and The Valley of Fire. I also have other money making ventures in the works. I'm willing to do what ever it take to get the money for the upgrade.

After all this time, the film is finally going to be shown on the big screen for many to see. I have to let everyone know because I want that theater packed full. This is what I worked so hard to get, recognition.

I am frustrated! I've been watching shorts on YouTube today, and one thing, more than anything else can make a good short crap. SOUND! So many films have bad sound, it's not that hard to mic the actors. Use a lav, or even a shotgun at the end of a boom. A great film is crap if nobody can hear it. Please, please, use mics!

My friend's roommate gave me a bike the other day (very nice of her). I painted the bright-pink bike a nice flat black. I rode it, and let me just let you know that I haven't ridden a bike in at least 15 years. It wore me the hell out! I am so out of shape. I thought it would be easy, I can ride the stationary bike for 30 minutes easily. The real thing is a lot more difficult, and I'm thinking it would be a lot more advantageous to me and my goal of getting rid of the fat. I will ride it every day until I loose what I want, then I will continue to ride to keep it off. I know that riding the bike alone will not get rid of the fat, but I will change the way I eat as well.

So, for the past few days I have been trying to construct a camera mounting system for the inside of my car. At first I wanted the mount to be in the center of the car, but after a few tries, I found that it is nearly impossible for the mount to be stabilized because of the design of the center console. So I then placed it in front of the passenger seat. It's not great, but it works. Here is the test video I shot today...

This morning I saw, "Taken", with Liam Neeson. Written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, and directed by Pierre Morel. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film.

It was action packed and had a great flow. Liam did a great job as a former "Government worker". It starts of with him finding the perfect present for his daughter's 17th birthday, and ends with semi happy feelings. It was shot much like any action film, quick cuts and fast paced camera moves, but it wasn't to the extreme like most films. It is one to buy, that's for sure.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

This morning I saw "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans". I was impressed, it had the same feel as the first two, even though it was not directed by Len Wiseman. It was directed by Patrick Tatopoulos. It had the same actors as the first two, Bill Nighy(Viktor), Michael Sheen(Lucian), Steven Mackintosh(Tannis), and even Kevin Grevioux(Raze).

The escape of Lucian that was depicted in the first film was recreated perfectly. I would have liked to see a little about the killing of Selene's family and her transformation.

It's going to make the perfect ending to my Underworld collection, or should I say, "The perfect beginning".

Defiance

Why is it that every time I go to the theater people have the need to talk through the entire film?
That's the worse part of going to the movies, besides the outrageous prices. $4.00 for a small hot dog!

Anyway, last night I saw "Defiance". I was looking forward to seeing it for some time. It was better than I was hoping for. "Defiance" is based on a true story about a group of Jews hiding from the Germans by living in the forest during World War II. Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber were great together. Personally I have always liked Liev Schreiber, and have never really been a fan of Daniel Craig, but they were both GREAT! Edward Zwick (Glory 1989, Blood Diamond 2006)did a wonderful job directing this film, every shot was stunning. Shooting in the forest must have been a pain, but he made it look natural.

Gran Torino...

I just saw this film this evening. I have been wanting to see it for a while, but I have been sick, so I was unable to.

As always Clint Eastwood did a fantastic job on this film. He is one of the greatest directors of our time, as well as one of the greatest actors. Clint Eastwood (Walt Kowalski) and Christopher Carley (Father Janovich) did a great job, however all the people playing the Hmong did a horrible job. None of the teens they got to play the Hmong could act. It was the worst display of acting I have seen in many years. Scott Eastwood, son of Clint had a small part, really small.

That being said, "Gran Torino" is the best film I have seen in quite some time. Everybody should see this film!

"With Honors"

I came across a great movie that I haven't seen in years. It was on VHS, yes I still have some of those. The movie is "With Honors". When I first saw this movie many, many years ago, I loved it instantly. I'm not going to give you my opinion on the film. I was just amazed that even after all these years I still love the movie, in fact I think I love it even more now that I'm older. It touched home for me, maybe because of the recent loss of a dear friend, or maybe just because I feel like the bum.

Either way, it was a joy to watch again, and I suggest that everyone watch it, at least once.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - movie

Ok, I saw this movie the day after Christmas, I did not want to go, but my sister bugged me until I said yes.

That being said, it was not a bad movie, just kind of weird. The effects were pretty good, it was strange to see Brad Pitt looking old, he kind of reminded me of Robert Redford through most of the film, in looks only, not in acting ability, Robert Redford is much, much better. The story line was easy to follow for the most part. It could have been a bit shorter, near the end it just seamed to drag on a bit. Over all, I would say it's worth watching.

Australia - movie

I saw "Australia" this evening. This film has been out for quite some time, however the theater was quite crowded.
I was impressed with this film over all. There were some visual elements that kept reminding me that I was watching a movie. It took place in Australia, of course, and with all the great landscapes, there were many shots that were done with blue screen. Why would they do something like that, most of the shots didn't need to be done blue screen. It just made the movie feel fake. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman did a good job, Hugh, much better than Nicole.
It was a good story, scratch that, a great story. I think it could have been done a little better, but like I said, it was good over all.

Shortly before leaving for the theater I received a call from a friend inviting me to see "The Spirit". I declined due to the fact that I've already seen it, and was not at all impressed. The technique was cool in "Sin City"(2005), but come on, let it be. That's all I'm going to say on that film.

My opinion of Valkyrie

Today I saw "Valkyrie". It was pretty darn good.
I've known the story for quite some time, so I was hesitant in watching it. From the trailer it looked like there were too many inaccuracies, but after seeing the film, Only one real big problem stood out. Just one, but it's a big one. The placement of Hitler in the room is backwards. The reason he survived is because the table blocked most of the blast because he was on the other side of the table from where Von Stauffenberg was. That's a big error to me, because if Hitler was next to where Von Stauffenberg was, he would have died. Now, I'm not an expert, so there might be other issues, but from what I know, that was the only one. It was nice to see Kenneth Branagh again, and Bill Nighy did a great freaking job (Bill Nighy rocks!). I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruse, but I was impressed with his preformance in the film.
Bryan Singer did a great job, his best work since "The Usual Suspect", way back in 1994.
Over all, I suggest you go see "Valkyrie".

Day ONE...

Okay, so today is day one of 2009. Living in Las Vegas means fireworks on New Year's Eve, and since I don't like going out to celebrate I decided to go up to the mountain and get some footage of the show.

Let me just say something about the fireworks...
This past year there was a fire on the roof of one of the major hotels, this being said, the fire department said that the fireworks must be shot from a lower location, not the roof. Because of this fact, the show was boring. Not as cool as last year, or the years in the past.

The only excitement last night in the city was a bomb scare at Boulder Station Hotel and Casino. My mother was at the casino when they evacuated it. The story goes like this...
A man made a bomb threat, the casino was evacuated (for two hours). The police blocked off the streets around the casino, so the people could not leave. The man was caught, and the employees were allowed in, but not the customers. Eventually they let everyone back in.
The funny thing is that this morning on the news, there was no mention of it, they said nothing happened last night. That's great reporting there people!

Below is just some video of clouds passing over and in front the mountains. It was shot three days before Christmas up at Mt. Charleston, which is about 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas.

The last day of 2008

Hello, today is the last day of 2008. Like I said before, I have no reason to celebrate. 2008, for me, was a bad year. Most notably was the loss of my best friend and business partner, Daniel Courtney. He passed away on October 31st. It is still strange to think about. Why should I celebrate another year, when he will never again see another one?
Today I was looking through my video tapes, looking for an interview I shot a while back, when I came across a screen test I shot with him. I had forgotten about the video, but it was good to see him smiling again, even though it was only video.
I am watching the news as I write this and it's amazing how much happened this year, most of it bad. And now the war brewing in the Gaza Strip, and Israel. Unemployment is up to 4.5 million, and yes, I am one of them. Politicians are crooks, liars, and just plain stupid.
Any way enough with the cheerful stuff.

The new year...

The new year is just around the corner, what does this mean? To me it means nothing, it's just another day. I don't know about you, but I like to stay home and avoid the crowds. This idea that we have to celebrate the new year is something that just bugs me!
Why is it so important for me to celebrate another day? Why must I get drunk and party just because the next day is Thursday? Why do I have to kiss a stranger at midnight? Why can't I just stay home and do what I would normally do on a Wednesday?
Anyway, I'm not saying that people shouldn't celebrate, I'm just saying that I don't understand the excitement.
